Yesterday evening, time has come for Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg to finally announce its own and long-awaited location feature. You could tell how high the expectations were from the live coverage, comments and the many tweets that followed the event. Today everyone posted something on Facebook about the new feature. Alas, we are happy it finally is here. Let me explain, why.
The new feature allows users to virtually check-in at a location (“place”) with their iPhone. Facebook places is very focused on real-time integration – every places site on Facebook has a “here now” feature and push notifications if one of your friends is nearby. These features are rather similar to what companies such as Foursquare and Gowalla (and friendticker) offered users for quite a while. So why would the big reach of Facebook not harm the other location-based companies? For a simple fact: the user proposition is just different.
Big difference is the incentive you get from your check-ins. friendticker has started with the announcement that we provide real value for your check-ins – no matter where these check-ins do come from. Foursquare also looks into offering specials, whereas booyah (myTown) wants to bring gaming aspects into Facebook. Sticking to its open API policy, Facebook allows third party providers to easily tap into the check-in and places and use it for their own products. Gowalla and Yelp seem to have apps already in place, which allow users to check-in at the locations provided by Facebook.
The massive user base of Facebook will help to make the check-in a popular concept. Using this principle to not only let your friends know where you are, but also allow yourself to get something back for your activity is a future concept for mobile services. This user proposition is friendticker’s promise.
We think that these recent developments will help to extent our reach and capability to offer interesting missions to users and a broad audience to advertising customers. In that case everyone benefits from the new Facebook places feature.

Imaginatively exploring questions of faith, familial responsibility, delinquent behavior, dental phenomena, academia, mortality, and Judaism – and intersections thereof – A Serious Man is the new film from Academy Award-winning writer/directors Joel & Ethan Coen. A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and F-Troop is on TV. It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik (Tony Award nominee Michael Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous acquaintances, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolff) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job…
