Yesterday evening, time has come for Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg to finally announce its own and long-awaited location feature. You could tell how high the expectations were from the live coverage, comments and the many tweets that followed the event. Today everyone posted something on Facebook about the new feature. Alas, we are happy it finally is here. Let me explain, why.

The new feature allows users to virtually check-in at a location (“place”) with their iPhone. Facebook places is very focused on real-time integration – every places site on Facebook has a “here now” feature and push notifications if one of your friends is nearby. These features are rather similar to what companies such as Foursquare and Gowalla (and friendticker) offered users for quite a while. So why would the big reach of Facebook not harm the other location-based companies? For a simple fact: the user proposition is just different.

Big difference is the incentive you get from your check-ins. friendticker has started with the announcement that we provide real value for your check-ins – no matter where these check-ins do come from. Foursquare also looks into offering specials, whereas booyah (myTown) wants to bring gaming aspects into Facebook. Sticking to its open API policy, Facebook allows third party providers to easily tap into the check-in and places and use it for their own products. Gowalla and Yelp seem to have apps already in place, which allow users to check-in at the locations provided by Facebook.

The massive user base of Facebook will help to make the check-in a popular concept. Using this principle to not only let your friends know where you are, but also allow yourself to get something back for your activity is a future concept for mobile services. This user proposition is friendticker’s promise.

We think that these recent developments will help to extent our reach and capability to offer interesting missions to users and a broad audience to advertising customers. In that case everyone benefits from the new Facebook places feature.

We are looking forward to your ideas!

The agency started in 2000 and is listed among the top 5 of its branche today. It offers wellness trips online as well as in selected travel agencies and TV shows. Almost no other provider cooperates with more hotels as beauty24 does. Clients may choose from over 8.000 wellness programmes in over 600 hotels worldwide.

In July 2010, beauty24 discovers a new way of innovative marketing. Together with the geolocation service friendticker, the wellness agency built its own ITEM-campaign. For only 2 relaxed Check-Ins you can get a wellness voucher amounting to 30EUR.

But that’s not all: friendticker has three more vouchers for a wellness weekend (each amounting to 500EUR) sponsored by beauty24. How can you get one?

Take a funny beauty-photo.

Post this photo on the friendticker fanpage and share it among your friends by using the code “Beauty24”. The photo having most of the likes wins a great wellness weekend!

Together with the online-PR-agency Pure Online, the film production company uses Germany’s number one Geolocation service friendticker to create an unprecedented campaign for their new drama “A Serious Man” (13 August 2010 on DVD and Blu-ray). Movie enthusiasts and fans of the successful Hollywood producers, the Coen-brothers can be part of an exciting tour through Berlin and win the double Oscar nominee on DVD via virtual Check-Ins on the friendticker app.

According to the movie’s plot, which is created around a Jewish professor of Physics, friendticker users have to pass a tour through seven Jewish sites in Germany’s capital to gather the “A Serious Man-ITEM”. Places of this worldwide unique campaign are, amongst others, the Jüdisches Museum, the Jüdischer Friedhof in Prenzlauer Berg as well as the Neue Synagoge Berlin, and unknown locations like Das Fehlende Haus or the Jewish restaurant Gabriel. The participants cannot only expand their DVD collection, they also have the possibility to get a completely new view on their city. The first 5 winners get one of the coveted DVD “A Serious Man”. The last five winners get the box office hit “Burn After Reading“.

Imaginatively exploring questions of faith, familial responsibility, delinquent behavior, dental phenomena, academia, mortality, and Judaism – and intersections thereof – A Serious Man is the new film from Academy Award-winning writer/directors Joel & Ethan Coen. A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and F-Troop is on TV. It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik (Tony Award nominee Michael Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous acquaintances, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolff) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job…
